Low Budget 3D

Hi all-

I've got a client who wants to do a one day 3D shoot in Redding, CA for a doc. She has no idea what it might cost and asked for my help. I don't think she has the money, but then I don't know what the money might be.

Probably looking at a RED or SI-2K rig. Anyone willing to throw out ballpark numbers for what such a thing might cost?

Something doesn't sound quite right here. If she's going into production on a 3-D doc, presumably she's already done her cost breakdowns for the film as a whole.

Or is this a 3-D sequence to be inserted into a 2-D doc? ... You know, like inserting one colour shot into a B&W flick.

Or, kidding aside, will this shoot constitute the whole doc?

Or has she perhaps not thought anything through at all?

That's what it sounds like. I've already shot a couple of days on it, along with at least one other crew on the east coast, and it's been

EX1's and HPX-170's. I assume this is one component of a much larger project that has yet to be funded.

I would also encourage your client to consider 21st Century 3D. We offer cost competitive solutions that may be better suited to doc shooting than a large beam splitter (although we do offer beam splitters that accommodate RED ONE and Sony EX3 cameras).
